The Dizzy Sheep Daily Dizzy Deal
What is this dizzy deal thing?
Obaaama - Raaama!

Day 2 Update:

What a beautiful ceremony yesterday!  Everyone at Dizzy Sheep was filled with joy and hope to see President Obama sworn in!  We decided to extend the United Blanket of Change one more day for word to spread and allow everyone who's interested to join in!

We're really hoping to get submissions from all 50 states - please help spread the word!

We'd also like to clear up any confusion over the "free skein" for $5 plus $5 shipping.  It's crazy, but these days it really costs $5 to ship a skein of yarn!  Unfortunately we can't cover all of the shipping costs - and we know it's asking a lot for you to pay shipping AND make you knit...

However, this project has such a great message and well, it's pretty cool!  So we can give you the yarn for free and we'll be putting in some hard (but fun) work to stitch the blanket together and send it off to our new president.  We're very grateful for everyone who is joining in on this project!

Calling all knitters! Dizzy Sheep and your country need YOU!!

We have a project in honor of our new president!  We want you to help us make the:

United Blanket of Change!

Today's deal gets you... a FREE skein of Austermann Bombolo to make your square of this symbol of hope! ... Right, as expected I don't see a flurry of excitement and enthusiastic clicking over everyone's "favorite" yarn.  Here's the thing - this is what we have to work with.  We don't always have the ideal yarn or the softest cashmere, but we can still make the best of it and create something beautiful!

The unique squares you knit will be combined into the United Blanket of Change and sent to the President!

We are all counting on our new President Barack Obama to move forward with blanketing changes and knit this country together into one great nation...  and Dizzy Sheep wants to unite knitters to show our support!

Even if you didn't vote for Obama or agree with all of his ideas, we still need you!  The 51% wool and 49% acrylic content symbolizes the ever present differing views of the people in this great country, spun together to create - "Austermann Obamolo Bombolo!"  Alright, that might be going a bit far, but the point is,

United We Knit!!!

Details:

United Blanket of Change

Your payment covers shipping for the yarn and for the return of the completed square - we provide the yarn at no additional charge.

Have a group that wants to make multiple squares - CONTACT us with an email address.

For each kit ordered, you will receive:

  • One free skein of Austermann Bombolo
  • A pre-paid and addressed Priority MailTM envelope to return your completed square
  • General guidelines for the completed square
  • A form to provide an optional acknowledgment and/or dedication for your square
  • A photograph of the completed blanket via email

All completed squares must be dropped in the mail by March 2, 2009.

Dizzy will combine the squares into a very large, probably wall size blanket.

The completed blanket will be sent to President Obama along with a document containing all the acknowledgements / dedications.

General guidelines:

  • Each square should be 10" x 10"
  • Any design - perhaps something inspiring, important or symbolic to you
  • One skein will make a square, but you can add other yarns, beads, etc
  • Please nothing that would be generally considered offensive
  • Yes - crocheting is perfectly acceptable (Dizzy considers crocheting: knitting using a hook :-)

We are trying for participation from all 50 states.  We will note any states in the Blaaag that are missing and we know that the wonderful online community of knitters will "needle" a friend or relative to participate.

This looks like a very bulky yarn...does anyone have any pattern suggestions for the square?

You are welcomed and encouraged to participate even if your state already has someone doing a square. Or you can represent a state that has special meaning in your life - of course your current state may become jealous :-)

Are you still looking for knitters? I'm in Arkansas. I'm a tiny blue dot in a very red state.
